Horse Racing Results: Blame Wins the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga Race Course
Posted on Saturday, August 7th, 2010
Blame overtook heavily favored Quality Road at the wire to win the 83rd running of the $750,000 Whitney Invitational Handicap (G1) Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez, the 4-year-old Arch colt sat comfortably in fourth through the early going, no more than five lengths off Quality Road’s surprisingly moderate opening fractions of 24.42, 48.06 and 1:11.92. Edging closer on the turn, Blame took dead aim on the front-runner as the Whitney Handicap field of six turned for home, closing steadily under a hand-ride and finally sticking his head in front for his fifth straight victory.
Blam raced the 1 1/8-mile Whitney Handicap in 1:48.88 making him the first horse to earn a guaranteed berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic as part of the “Win and You’re In” series.

Posted on Friday, August 6th, 2010
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Moss’ Zenyatta remained unbeaten Saturday as she won her 18th consecutive race with a narrow victory in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1).

Zenyatta, sent postward at 1-9 while carrying highweight of 123 pounds, was scoring her third straight success in the Hirsch, equaling the Del Mar feats of Native Diver, Flawlessly and Track Gal who also won a Del Mar stakes event three years in a row.
