Santa Anita Park Opens Winter/Spring Meet With $12 Million in Stakes

Santa Anita Park will feature 10 Grade I stakes races and will offer more than $12 million in stakes money during its 70th season of racing, which begins Tuesday, Dec. 26. The meet figures to be highlighted by the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday, March 3 and the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on Saturday, April 7.


Fair Grounds Reopens for 135th Racing Season

Fair Grounds Race Course, one of the country’s oldest race tracks that took a beating after Hurricane Katrina, re-opens on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 for it 137th Racing Season. Del Mar Race Track Installs Polytrack for 2007 Meet

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has announced the installation of its Polytrack surface as the new main track surface for its 2007 summer racing season. The Polytrack manufacturer is Martin Collins Surfaces and Footings, an affiliate of the Keeneland Association in Lexington. Polytrack, an engineered racing surface that consists of silica sand, fibers and recycled materials, has been installed on racetracks in the United Kingdom and, most recently, in Kentucky and Canada.


Take D’Tour Wins Big at Calder’s Florida Million Racing Festival

(AP) — Take D’Tour defeated Tiger Belle by 3 3/4 lengths to win the $200,000 Elmer Heubeck Distaff Handicap, one of eight races Saturday in the Florida Million at Calder Race Course. Ridden by Eibar Coa, Take D???Tour covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:46.69 to pay $3.20, $2.40 and $2.20.


Calder’s Florida Million Stakes Races & Music Festival

Invasor Upsets Bernardini to Win Breeders’ Cup Classic

(AP) — Born in Argentina, a hero in Uruguay, and now a champion in America. Invasor beat the mighty Bernardini in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday. “For sure, he’s the older horse of the year. Maybe the Horse of the Year,” Invasor’s trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said.
