By a nose, Scat Daddy has established himself as one of the contenders for the Kentucky Derby. Scat Daddy stormed through the stretch and nosed out Stormello to win Saturday’s $350,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Lava Man Wins 2nd $1 Million Santa Anita Handicap

Lava Man just needed a return home to erupt again. Returning to his home state, Lava Man won the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap for the second straight year Saturday. Lava Man joined John Henry and Milwaukee Brew as the only two-time winners of the race.

Harness Racing Losing Credibility with Bettors

That is the opinion of one disgruntled horseplayer who was fed up with the mess in Ontario racing long before the recent rash of positive tests were revealed.

Woodbine officials admit wagering on its harness racing product has been in a free fall for the past 18 months and much of that is attributed to credibility issues.

“What shot do you have when you don’t know who is juicing and who isn’t?,” said the self-described “former big player” at Woodbine, who has dramatically scaled down his wagers.

“The inconsistency defied any logic and any handicapping fundamentals. Some of the performances were too good to be believed and impossible to justify and quantify.”
