Posted on Thursday, June 26th, 2008
Horse trainer Steve Asmussen was assigned a July 18 hearing by the Texas Racing Commission stewards at Lone Star Park regarding a 3-year-old filly under his care, Timber Trick, who tested positive for the prohibited substance hydroxylidocaine, a metabolite of lidocaine.
The Texas Racing Commission said the positive test occurred after Gainesway Stable’s Timber Trick won the third race at Lone Star Park by 7 lengths last May 10.
43-year-old Steve Asmussen, who leads all trainers in wins and earnings in 2008 and also trains 2007 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year Curlin, was hit with a six-month suspension from July 10, 2006, to January 10, 2007, after a horse in his care tested positive for mepivicaine in Louisiana. The suspension was served concurrently with another after one of his horses came back positive for acepromazine in New Mexico.
