Posted on Monday, August 18th, 2008
Filly Genuine Risk, the winner of the Kentucky Derby in 1980, has died.
Genuine Risk, who was the first filly in 65 years to win the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs, died in her paddock at Virginia’s Newstead Farms. Regret (1915) and Winning Colors (1980) are the only other fillies to have won the first jewel of the Triple Crown.
Genuine Risk was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1986.
