Belmont Park Canceled July 20 Card Due To Power Problems
Posted on Sunday, July 20th, 2008
Belmont Park canceled its Sunday, July 20, horse racing card due to ongoing power problems.
A basement transformer fire shut down the grandstand on Saturday but racing continued with fans consolidated into the clubhouse.
Key areas of the track including the jockeys’ room still lacked electricity on Sunday, causing the cancellation of the final day of the meet.
Racing shifts to Saratoga on Wednesday, July 23, for six weeks, allowing time to complete the electrical repairs before Belmont Park resumes in September.
