2008 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park

The 2008 Breeders' Cup, thoroughbred racing's most prestigious event, consisting of 14 Breeders' Cup races and $25.5 million in purses, will be held on October 24-25, at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.

But before that, Belmont Stakes winner Da'Tara is going to race in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course while Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown will be racing in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.

A day after finishing second to Bernardini in the $1 million Travers Stakes, Bluegrass Cat retires with a fractured right hind pastern bone, WinStar farm president Doug Cauthen announced on Sunday.

Following Saturday’s race at Saratoga, radiographs taken discovered the 3-year-old Bluegrass Cat to be significantly lame in his right hind leg. The injury is not considered life-threatening.

The runner-up to Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby and to Jazil in the Belmont Stakes, Bluegrass Cat finished 7 1/2 lengths behind Bernardini on Saturday. He entered Saturday’s race off an impressive win in the Haskell Invitational three weeks earlier.

A son of Storm Cat, Bluegrass has five wins, four seconds and earnings of $1,756,280 in 11 career starts.
