Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Natalma Stakes at Woodbine September 14

Eleven 2-year-old fillies headed by Lady Shakespeare will be racing in the $150,000 Natalma Stakes (G3) at 1 mile over the Woodbine turf course.
The Natalma Stakes is part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge where the Natalma winner automatically becomes part of the Breeders’ Cup field for the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on October 24 at Santa Anita Park.

Vegas Wedding under jockey Michael Luzzi carries 114 lbs. with morning line odds of 12-1- Laragh under jockey Patrick Husbands, 114 lbs., 10-1
- Lady Shakespeare under jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson, 114 lbs., 3-1
- Milwaukee Appeal under jockey Na Somsanith, 116 lbs., 15-1
- C Karma under jockey Jones Jono Jones, 114 lbs., 4-1
- Triple Flip under jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva, 114 lbs., 12-1
- Panther Strike under jockey Tyler Pizarro, 114 lbs., 12-1
- Freyga under jockey Justin Stein, 114 lbs., 15-1

Trained by Roger Attfield, Lady Shakespeare is a full sibling to multiple grade I winner Shakespeare who won the Woodbine Mile over subsequent Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Kip Deville. The daughter of 1987 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Theatrical, Lady Shakespeare, will be ridden by jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson who was also aboard on Lady Shakespeare’s horse racing debut when she won a 6-furlong maiden turf race by 3/4 of a length.
Second horse betting choice C Karma and After the Applause will be trying turf for the first time after running third and second respectively in the Ontario Debutante over the Woodbine Polytrack last August 16. C Karma will be ridden by jockey Jono Jones while After the Applause will have jockey Chantal Sutherland aboard in Sunday’s Natalma Stakes.
Koonunga Hill recently won by nose over Panther Strike in her turf debut, the 7-furlong Ice Water. The Steve Owens-trained bay Koonunga Hill has won 2 of 5 starts and will be ridden by jockey Constant Montpellier in the Natalma.
Panther Strike is still looking for a win and will be under jockey Tyler Pizarro for race horse trainer Daniel Vella and owner Edward Seltzer.
The Natalma Stakes is race 6 of 10 horse races in Woodbine’s September 14 card. Natalma post time is 3:35 pm. Included in its undercard is the $150,000 Swynford Stakes at 7 furlongs for 2-year-olds.
