Breeders’ Cup Challenge Results: Alcomo Wins The Greenwood Cup Stakes at Philadelphia Park July 18

Multiple stakes winner in Brazil Alcomo won the $200,000 Greenwood Cup Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths at Philadelphia Park on Saturday, July 18.
The Greenwood Cup Stakes win earned Alcomo a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon on November 7 at Santa Anita Park as part of the “Win and You’re In” 2009 Breeders’ Cup Challenge.
Ridden by Willie Martinez, Alcomo ran the 1 1/2 mile Greenwood Cup Stakes in 2:31.88 paying $13.20, $5.40 and $16.40. Alaazo, under Frankie Pennington, paid $7.20 and $14.60 while Eldaafer was another 1 1/2 lengths behind showing $10.80.
Luna Park finished fourth in Philadelphia Park’s Greenwood Cup Stakes followed by Nite Light and Critical Acclaim.
