Breeders? Cup Challenge Results: Blind Luck Wins The Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Park October 4
Posted on Sunday, October 4th, 2009
Blind Luck, under jockey Tyler Baze, overtook Always a Princess and won Sunday’s $300,000 Oak Leaf Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths to earn an automatic berth in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on November 6 as part of the Breeders’ Cup 2009 Challenge.
Trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Blind Luck raced 1 1/16 miles on Santa Anita Park‘s synthetic Pro-Ride surface in 1:43.19 and paid $9, $4.60 and $3.60 at 7-2 odds.
“She was a little keen at the break and it took me a moment to get her to settle,” jockey Tyler Baze said. “Things got a little tight around the first turn, but besides that, we had a clean trip. Turning for home, the seas parted and she ran great to the wire.”
