Zabeel Racing International’s 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly Game Face got her first Grade I victory by taking the $350,000 Princess Rooney Handicap (G1) at Calder on Saturday at the Summit of Speed.

SBG Global RacebookTrained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by jockey Edgar Prado, Game Face broke from post six and raced in fourth position in the early going of the six furlong race. She edged closer to the leaders nearing the turn and gained command at the quarter pole.

Game Face, who shipped in from New York for the race, drew off to win the Princess Rooney Handicap over Keep the Peace (from Kentucky) in second, with local hope Orinoquia back in third place.

“This was the first time that I rode this filly and she seemed to respond to me pretty well,” said jockey Edgar Prado. “The first thing that I noticed about her was that she wanted to run a bit too early, but she rated for me and it was all about finishing strong from there.”

Game Face covered the 6 furlongs in 1:10.74 and paid $5.60, $3.60 and $2.80. Keep the Peace returned $5.80 and $4.00, while Orinoquia paid $8.40 to show.

The win was race horse trainer Todd Pletcher’s second victory at the Summit of Speed, his first coming in the 2001 Calder Turf Sprint with Texas Glitter.
