Breeders’ Cup News: Fred Stone Selected As Official Artist For The 25th Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita
Posted on Monday, September 8th, 2008
Breeders’ Cup Limited and the Oak Tree Racing Association have announced that world-renowned equine artist Fred Stone has been commissioned to commemorate the 25th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships with a color poster entitled “Bred for Glory.”
Designed to capture the history and the future of Thoroughbred horse racing, autographed copies of “Bred for Glory” will be available along with Mr. Stone, during Breeders’ Cup week at Santa Anita Park from October 22-26.
“Bred for Glory” features a mare and foal as they romp in a lush pasture against the backdrop of a thrilling Breeders’ Cup finish at majestic Santa Anita. Fred Stone spins horse racing’s most successful story of the past quarter century in this sure-to-be collector’s item poster.
Fans who cannot attend the 2008 Breeders’ Cup may purchase the poster, a limited edition giclee on fine art paper, and a limited edition giclee on canvas, through Champions Gift Shop at Santa Anita. Both the paper and canvas giclees will be signed by Fred Stone and three Hall of Fame jockeys–Eddie Delahoussaye, Laffit Pincay Jr. and Gary Stevens.
The Breeders’ Cup XXV will be held at Oak Tree on October 24-25. Fred Stone will be available to fans in the East Paddock Gardens throughout Breeders’ Cup week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to “Bred for Glory,” those attending Santa Anita during Breeders’ Cup week will be able to view a rare exhibit and sale which will feature 32 years of Stone’s most sought after and long sold-out limited edition prints, posters and canvases from his private collection.
This year’s event will mark the fourth time the Breeders’ Cup World Championships have been held at Oak Tree at Santa Anita. Previous Breeders’ Cup engagements were in 1986, 1993 and 2003.
The Oak Tree Racing Association will embark upon its 40th season with opening day on September 24.
