Breeders’ Cup Results & Payouts: Furthest Land Wins The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita Park

The 21-1 longshot Furthest Land has pulled off a stunning upset in Saturday’s $1-million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, defeating Ready’s Echo by 3/4 of a length at Santa Anita November 7.
Ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux and trained by Michael Maker, Furthest Land ran the mile in 1:35.50 and paid $44.60, $18.40 and $9.60. Ready’s Echo returned $18.20 and $9.40, while Midshipman paid $4.20 to show.

Furthest Land became the third gelding to win on the second day of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and was the third Breeders’ Cup winner ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux during the 2009 edition of the Breeders’ Cup.
Mastercraftsman, the 7-5 favorite from Ireland, was fourth followed by Mambo Meister, Neko Bay, Mr. Sidney, Chocolate Candy, Bullsbay and Pyro completed the order of finish in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
