The Irish import Goldikova has successfully defended her title in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile, beating 10 male rivals Saturday at Santa Anita Park November 7.
Ridden by jockey Olivier Peslier and trained by Freddy Head, Goldikova ran the mile distance on the turf in 1:32.26 and paid $4.80, $4 and $2.60 as the 7-5 horse wagering favorite. Courageous Cat returned $12.80 and $8, while Justenuffhumor was another length back in third and paid $8 to show.

Jockey Olivier Peslier and race horse trainer Freddy Head were also part of the 4-year-old filly Goldikova’s Breeders’ Cup Mile victory last year over the same turf course.
Court Vision was fourth in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Mile followed by Delegator (GB), Karelian, Ferneley (IRE), Whatsthescript (IRE), Gladiatorus, Cowboy Cal and Zacinto (GB).
Goldikova’s victory was the third by a Europe-based horse Saturday. Two European horses won on Friday’s opening day of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
