British Horseracing Board Chief to Leave
Posted on Monday, February 20th, 2006
GREG NICHOLS is to jump ship from the British Horseracing Board this summer - but yesterday denied he has been pushed.
The Australian has been BHB chief executive since 2002, but won’t carry on after racing’s governing body has been restructured later in the year.
Last year was an annus horribilis for the BHB, with the low point being its High Court defeat by William Hill over payment for racing data.
But Nichols said events of 2005 had nothing to do with his departure from racing’s corridors of power.
"It was purely my decision to leave and I’ve come to that decision because I couldn’t commit myself to the long-term project as I wasn’t prepared to go beyond 2007," he said.
"It won’t be my decision who replaces me but part of the restructure is to find a job specification that fits the role and with this out in the open we can start the search for suitable candidates."
