Curlin Ready For 2008 Desert Debut in the Jaguar Trophy at Nad Al Sheba
Posted on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
Horse of the Year Curlin will face five challengers when he makes his 2008 seasonal debut in the $175,000 Jaguar Trophy at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, February 28.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Curlin is owned by Stonestreet Stables and Midnight Cry Stables. The Jaguar Trophy at 1 1/4 miles, will serve as Curlin’s final prep race for the $6,000,000 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) on March 29 also at 1 1/4 miles in Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
Curlin’s bankroll is $5.1 million. If he wins both the Jaguar Trophy and Dubai World Cup, he would come home with about $8.8 million in purses, 3rd best behind the all-time leading money earner Cigar, who won almost $10 million.
Among those facing Curlin this Thursday is Familiar Territory Saeed bin Suroor who also has Imperialista entered in the Jaguar Trophy. Other horses competing against Curlin are Arqaam, Engrupido, and Jet Express.
Gambling is illegal in Dubai but several account-wagering sites are taking bets on the Thursday races at Nad Al Sheba, including Bodog Racebook.
