Declan’s Moon To Resume Training
Posted on Monday, December 12th, 2005
Trainer Ron Ellis announced to reporters that 2004 Hollywood Futurity (Gr. I) winner, Declan’s Moon, will resume training soon.
"The results of a nuclear scan came out reasonably clear," said Ellis. "I think we’re good. We’ll ride him under tack for a week and then start jogging."
Declan’s Moon, 2-year-old Eclipse champion of 2004 and unbeaten in five starts, underwent surgery to have a chip removed from his knee following a victory in the Santa Catalina Stakes(gr. II) in March at Santa Anita.
Ellis hoped the gelding would make it back this autumn but stopped with him in early October when a nuclear scan revealed a weakening of the cannon bone on the same leg as the knee surgery. The horse has been stall walking at Hollywood Park for the past two months.
Declan’s Moon was a frontrunner at last year’s Kentucky Derby race but had to withdraw because of his injury.
