Harlem Rocker Takes Withers Stakes at Aqueduct

Posted on Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Harlem Rocker beat 3 horses in the $142,500 Withers Stakes for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct on Saturday, April 26. The Withers Stakes is one of the final prep races of the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

Undefeated Harlem Rocker extended the winning streak to three with a 2 1/2 length victory over 3-5 favorite J Be K.

Ridden by jockey Eibar Coa and trained by Todd Pletcher, Harlem Rocker ran a mile in 1:34.50 on the fast track to easily capture his stakes debut.

“Every time he runs, he gets better,” said Coa who has been aboard for the three wins. “He’s not 100% yet, which is scary because he can be even better than this.”

Harlem Rocker earned $90,000 for Stronach Stables, paying $6.60 and $2.70 as the 2-1 second choice. J Be K, under jockey Garrett Gomez, returned $2.30. Double Or Nothing was third followed by Face the Cat.

There was no show wagering in Aqueduct’s Withers Stakes due to the small field.
