Horse Racing Results: Paddy O’Prado Wins The Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs

SBG  Global RacebookPaddy O’Prado responded to jockey Kent Desormeaux as he turned from home, pulling away to win the Virginia Derby (G2) on Saturday at Colonial Downs.

The 3-year-old grey colt Paddy O’Prado, who was third in the Kentucky Derby and sixth in the Preakness Stakes, took the lead at the top of the stretch on the inner rail and held off Interactif by 1 1/2 lengths, covering the 1 1/2 miles in 2:02.58.

The Donegal Racing colt Paddy O’Prado was the 3-5 favorite and paid $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10. Interactif returned $3.40 and $2.80 as the second choice, and Krypton paid $3.40 to show.

Earlier in the day, jockey Kent Desormeaux and race horse trainer Dale Romans also teamed up to win the $50,000 Chenery Stakes with 2-year-old Z Appeal.
