Indian Blessing Wins Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park September 20

Posted on Saturday, September 20th, 2008

SBG Global RacebookIndian Blessing, a Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint contender, romped to a 6-length win in the $142,500 Gallant Bloom Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park Saturday, September 20, earning her 8th win in 10 starts.

“It’s like driving a Ferrari,” said jockey Corey Nakatani, aboard for the first time as regular jockey John Velazquez rode Commentator in the Massachusetts Handicap at Suffolk Downs.

Second in the early stages, Indian Blessing took charge approaching the head of the stretch and steadily increased her margin. Elope got second with Porte Bonheur third and Zada Belle the trailer.

The time was 1:16.24 for the 6 1/2 furlongs on the fast track.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Indian Blessing earned $90,000 for owners Patti and Hal Earnhardt, paying $2.70 and $2.10. Elope returned $2.80. There was no show wagering because of the small field.
