Jockey Calvin Borel Out of Kentucky Derby Winner Mine That Bird

Jockey Calvin Borel is out as the rider of Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.

Online Horse BettingThe move comes after race horse trainer Chip Woolley, jockey Calvin Borel and the jockey’s agent could not agree on a long-term commitment.

Calvin Borel possibly could have been aboard the gelding for his next scheduled start at the $750,000 West Virginia Derby on August 1 but Woolley said he wants someone committed to ride Mine That Bird through the Breeders’ Cup 2009 November at Santa Anita Park.

“We’re going to try to find a rider that can commit to riding Mine That Bird through the season,” race horse trainer Chip Woolley said Wednesday. “He has other commitments and an inability to commit to ride my horse.”

Calvin Borel’s agent, Jerry Hissam, said Borel didn’t want to give a multi-race commitment, but would gladly ride Mine That Bird again in the future, given the chance.

“If Mr. Woolley would like to have him back, he’d like to come back,” Jerry Hissam said. “They have just treated us fabulous.”
