Keeneland Race Course will open its 2008 Spring Meet from Friday, April 4 until Friday, April 25. There is no racing at Keeneland Race Track on Mondays and Tuesdays. First Post is 1:15 p.m. each race day.

The Keeneland 2008 Spring Meet is highlighted by the $500,000 Ashland Stakes (gr. I) for 3-year-old fillies going 1/16 miles on April 5 and the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles on April 12. Both races are run over at Keeneland’s Polytrack.
Since its inception, the Blue Grass Stakes served as an important prep race for the Kentucky Derby. Last year’s Blue Grass Stakes winner, Dominican, went on to be one of the 2007 Kentucky Derby entries. Dominican finished 11th in the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs.
Another 2008 Kentucky Derby prep race to be run in Keeneland Race Track is the $325,000 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) for 3-year-old horses going 1 1/16 miles over Keeneland’s Polytrack.
The Lexington Stakes race record of 1:41 was set by Charismatic in 1999 who went on to become one of the winners of the Kentucky Derby.
