Kentucky Derby Prep Race: Turf Paradise Derby Entries February 21

Seven 3-year-olds who have aspirations to be part of the Kentucky Derby contenders list, will take their next step in the “Run for the Roses” in Saturday’s $100,000 Turf Paradise Derby on February 21 at Turf Paradise.

  1. Albacore Bob under jockey Miguel Hernandez with morning line odds of 6-1
  2. Pauper’s Prize under jockey Martin Garcia, 7-2
  3. French Hit under jockey Glenn Corbett, 8-1
  4. Lesson in Deceit under jockey Jake Barton, 8-1
  5. Mayor Marv under jockey David Flores, 2-1
  6. Hidden Bounty under jockey Wilson Omar Dieguez, 3-1
  7. Just Jebicah under jockey Ry Eikleberry, 10-1

Valley resident Mike Pegram will be represented in the Turf Paradise Derby by Arizona native and Bob Baffert-trained Mayor Marv, a recent maiden winner at Santa Anita.

Another California shipper will be the Vladimir Cerin-trained Pauper’s Prize, who has managed two runner-up finishes in Santa Anita Park‘s maiden-claiming ranks. Race horse trainer Vladimir Cerin won the Turf Paradise Derby in 2003 with Robleado.

Local hopes ride with the Bart Hone-trained Hidden Bounty, who won 5 of 8 career starts, including his last two stakes, the $50,000 Lost in the Fog Juvenile and $25,000 Rattlesnake Stakes.

The Turf Paradise Derby is a prep race for the 2009 Kentucky Derby. Turf Paradise Derby post time is 4:15 pm and is the 7th race in Turf Paradise’s February 21 card.
