Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Approved Ban On Steroids
Posted on Monday, August 25th, 2008
The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission unanimously approved a ban on anabolic steroids on Monday, August 25.
The new measure could put a stop to the use of the drugs in time for next year’s Kentucky Derby as well as other races in the state. Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has said he’ll support an order to have the new policy in place in time for the 2009 Kentucky Derby on May 2 at Churchill Downs.
Under the new rules, a horse with a steroid in its system would not be allowed to race. Some steroids would still be permitted for therapeautic purposes, but those must be out of the race horse’s system within 60 days of a race.
