Magna 5 Saturdays horse racingThe popular $2 pick five wager on races at coast-to-coast tracks, Magna 5, for a $500,000 guaranteed pool, returns for its fourth season next Saturday, January 28 at Laurel Park.

Along with generous payoffs, the fast-paced presentation of five races in about an hour has proven to be an attractive feature of the wager.

The wager begins each week at Laurel Park. First post time is approximately 4:30 pm ET. The initial races will also include four races from the rich Sunshine Millions program which matches Florida-breds against California-breds. Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park will each host a pair of races.

Magna 5 is offered at participating racetracks, off-track betting centers and online or by phone with XpressBet.

If no one correctly selects all five winners, 75% of that week???s pool is carried over to the following week and those that select four correct winners split 25% of the pool.

Two years ago, in the wager’s first week when Magna 5 also included Sunshine Millions races, there was only one winning ticket that returned a record $406,985.80. Musique Tujours‘ ($142.20) upset victory in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream was the major contributor to the lofty payout.

In 2006, Magna 5 payoff highlights included an $80,000 score in week nine, a $29,000 pot of gold in week three and a solid $11,000 return in week five.

Last season, over 10 weeks, the Magna 5 drew an average pool of $547,687, with 1,122 winning tickets paying a total of $153,007.80.

In 2005, the pick-five wager drew an average pool of $567,934, with 4,821 winning tickets paying a total of $679,240.80.

In 2004, during a 12-week span, the wager drew an average pool of $545,275, with 1,091 winning tickets paying a total of $427,227.40.
