Michael Pegram and partners’ Midnight Lute will be defending his title in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Midnight Lute has started only once in 2008, a 10th-place finish in the Pat O’Brien Handicap at Del Mar on August 24 in which he grabbed a quarter coming out of the gate.
Jockey Garrett Gomez, who has ridden Midnight Lute in his past 3 starts, has the irons and will break from post position 4.
