Internet Account Horse Wagering Approved in New York

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board on Thursday established rule changes allowing the use of Internet and other communication devices as means of wagering on horse racing in the state of New York (home of Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga racetracks as well as countless harness racing racetracks).
The new Internet account horse wagering rules will take effect on January 27, 2007 and allow account wagers to be made in person or through any telephonic device, the Internet, and other electronic devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs).
Under previous rules, account wagers could only be made over the telephone to off-track horse betting facilities and racetracks in the New York state. The new rules were authorized on an emergency basis. A formal rule-making process will run concurrently with the emergency rules in order to provide a period for public comment.
