Not Bourbon Wins Queen’s Plate Stakes at Woodbine June 22 Results & Payouts

Not Bourbon, ridden by jockey Jono Jones, held off Woodbine Oaks winner Ginger Brew to win the $1,003,600 Queen’s Plate Stakes on Sunday, June 22, at the Woodbine Polytrack.

Trained by Roger Attfield for owner Charles Fipke, Not Bourbon raced 1 1/4 miles in 2:03.59 and paid $11.30, $5.10 and $3.40. A head behind, Ginger Brew, under jockey Javier Castellano, returned $3.80 and $3. Solitaire with jockey Robert Landry came in third and paid $2.90 to show.

Three-year-old Canadian-bred horses that also raced in the Queen’s Plate Stakes at Woodbine in order of finish: Deputiformer, Palmers, East End Tap, Mamma’s Knight, Took the Time, Jungle Brew, Sebastian’s Song, Shadowless, Silver Jag, D. Flutie, Dylan’s Choice. Harvest Home was scratched.

It was the third straight stakes win for Not Bourbon who improved his career record to 5-2-1 in 10 lifetime starts and boosted his earnings to $951,080 with the winner’s share of $589,920. The chestnut colt Not Bourbon is out of Bourbon Belle, by Storm Boot. Prior to winning the 1 1/8 mile Plate Trial on June 1, Not Bourbon had never raced farther than 7 furlongs.

The 68-year-old horse trainer Roger Attfield got his eighth Queen’s Plate victory with Not Bourbon and matched the mark Harry Gidding Jr. established in 1942 when Attfield was a 2-year-old living in England. Sunday’s Queen’s Plate victory was Attfield’s first since winning with Regal Discovery in 1995.

Canada’s prestigious Queen’s Plate Stakes is the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. The second leg of Canada’s series is the July 13 Prince of Wales Stakes at 1 3/16 miles on dirt at Fort Erie. The final race is the Breeders’ Stakes on August 3 back at Woodbine on the turf at 1 1/2 miles.
