Old Fashioned Retired
Posted on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
One-time 2009 Kentucky Derby favorite Old Fashioned has been retired from horse racing after a knee surgery performed Tuesday at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington, Ky.
The 3-year-old colt owned by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farms injured the knee following a second-place finish in the Arkansas Derby April 4 at Oaklawn Park.
Trained by Larry Jones, Old Fashioned won his first 4 races and was considered an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby 135 on May 2 at Churchill Downs. The colt then finished second in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on March 14 before his runner-up finish to Papa Clem in the Arkansas Derby.
