Preakness Stakes Results & Payouts: Big Brown Wins at Pimlico

Looks like Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown is headed to New York’s Belmont Park for the 140th running of the 2008 Belmont Stakes after winning the $1-million Preakness Stakes by an undisputed 5 1/4 lengths on May 17, Saturday, at Pimlico.
The bay colt joined Majestic Prince (1969), Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew (1977) and Smarty Jones (2004) as undefeated Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners.
Big Brown earned $600,000 for the win and boosted his earnings to $2,714,500 for owners IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr. Pompa named Big Brown in honor of UPS, a major client of his Brooklyn trucking business.
The son of Boundary trained by Rick Dutrow, Jr., Big Brown covered 1 3/16 miles in 1:54.80 and paid $2.40, $2.60 and $2.40. Macho Again with jockey Julien Leparoux up returned $17.20 and $10.40. Third place finisher Icabad Crane, under jockey Jeremy Rose, paid $5.60 to show.
Horses that also ran in the Preakness Stakes 133 in order of finish: Racecar Rhapsody, Stevil, Kentucky Bear, Hey Byrn, Giant Moon, Tres Borrachos, Yankee Bravo, Gayego and Riley Tucker. Behindatthebar was scratched.
A $2.00 Exacta (7-1) paid $36.60, $2.00 Trifecta (7-1-3) paid $336.80, and a $2.00 Superfecta (7-1-3-6) paid $2,384.60.
