Red Giant Off The Breeders’ Cup Turf Field
Posted on Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Race horse Red Giant, one of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Turf favorites, was taken off the Breeders’ Cup field due to a fever.
The 4-year-old colt Red Giant didn’t finish his feed from the previous night and had a high temperature Sunday.
“The timing of it, six days before the race, gave him no time to recover and no time to work,” said race horse trainer Todd Pletcher, adding that owner John Fort had instructed him to make breeding plans for Red Giant, who likely has run his last race.
The 2008 Breeders’ Cup races will be run for 2 days on October 24-25 at Santa Anita Park.
