Sam F. Davis Stakes Contenders Post Final Works

Kentucky Derby hopefuls and probable contenders for Saturday’s $225,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs are posting their final works leading up to the race.

Online Horse BettingThe 1 1/16-mile Sam F. Davis Stakes is a prep race for the 2009 Kentucky Derby on May 2 at Churchill Downs.

On February 7, Musket Man, who captured last month’s Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, drilled 5 furlongs in 1:00 for race horse trainer Derek Ryan.

Atomic Rain also worked 4 furlongs in :49.08 over the Oldsmar oval, while A. P. Cardinal worked 4 furlongs at Palm Meadows in :49.85 and Free Country traveled 5 furlongs in 1:02.1 and was ranked 18th of the 30 race horses that worked the morning of the seventh at Gulfstream Park.

Top Seed, Inaugural Stakes winner on Lambholm South Cotillion Festival Day, worked 1/2 mile in :51.55 over the Tampa Bay Downs main track. General Quarters, runner up in both the Inaugural and Pasco Stakes, breezed 5 furlongs in 1:02, the fourth of 26 horses to work that distance.

Medaglia D’Onore put in a bullet work at Tampa Bay Downs going 4 furlongs in 48 seconds flat, recovering from a troubled trip in the Pasco Stakes.

Obligingly worked at Palm Meadows this morning, going 5 furlongs handily in 1:01.1.

The Sam F. Davis Stakes headlines the Festival Preview Day at Tampa Bay Downs on February 14. Also included on the day is the $125,000 Endeavour Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 4 years old and up running 1 1/16 miles on the turf as well as the $75,000 Suncoast Stakes at 1 mile 40 yards for 3-year-old fillies.
