Santa Anita Park Announced New Handicapping Contest “Winvivor”
Posted on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Santa Anita Park has announced the addition of a new online handicapping contest, “Winvivor,” beginning Jan. 1. This contest will complement the popular “Showvivor,” which has been offered to Santa Anita fans free of charge, for the past two years.
“Showvivor has been very popular with our fans and we feel that Winvivor could be a big hit as well,” said Santa Anita Vice President of Marketing, Allen Gutterman. “By virtue of the fact that you’ll have to pick a winner each day instead of a horse that finishes first, second or third, it’s obviously going to be tougher for people to stay ‘alive’ with Winvivor, but we think it has the potential to create some added interest, which is always good.”
Both contests will offer $2,500 to the winner. Participation is free and Winvivor contestants will be required to select one horse per day to finish first in a race of their choosing.
All selections must be registered online no later than 10 minutes before first post time at Santa Anita.
Santa Anita launched Showvivor in January of 2007.
“Showvivor has proven itself to be a great way for our fans from all over the country to stay in touch with our racing product here, and we feel that will be the case with Winvivor as well,” said Gutterman.
Fans are encouraged to register for both Showvivor and Winvivor at www.santaanita.com. First post time on Jan. 1 is 12 p.m. In order to participate, players must be registered by 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Opening day for Santa Anita’s traditional winter/spring meeting is Saturday, Dec. 26, with a special first post time of 11:30 a.m. Regular first post time on weekends and holidays is 12:30 p.m. Regular first post time on weekdays is 1 p.m.
