Son of 1977 Triple Crown Winner Seattle Slew Euthanized
Posted on Thursday, July 10th, 2008
The son of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, Vindication, was euthanized Thursday following the discovery of a gastric rupture.
Vindication, who won the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and was voted 2-year-old champion, was taken and put down at Rood and Riddle Veterinary Hospital where doctors discovered the rupture during exploratory surgery.
In 2002, Vindication won all four of his starts and earned $680,950. Trained by Bob Baffert, Vindication did not make it to the 2003 Kentucky Derby because of an injury to his left front suspensory over the winter. Vindication never started again and was retired from racing that summer.
The 8-year-old Vindication, who stood for $60,000 at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms, ranks 9th on this year’s second-crop sires list, with the earners of $1 million. Vindication has sired 8 race horses that have won or placed in stakes.
