The Wildcard in the Breeders’ Cup Classic is Casino Drive

The horse betting Breeders’ Cup Classic is oftentimes the favorite race of the year for horse betting gamblers. This year’s race is on Saturday, October 25th from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California and it is likely to hold a lot of intrigue.

SBG Global RacebookAlready out of the Breeders’ Cup Classic field is Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown who was retired due to an injury. 2007 Horse of the Year, Curlin is being considered for the horse race.

And then there is Casino Drive, the race horse that was a pick by many experts to win the Belmont Stakes before suffering a bone bruise. Casino Drive will be attempting to tackle the world’s best horses with very few races under his belt.

Bettors that want to get an idea of how Casino Drive runs should pay attention last weekend when he was entered in an optional claimer at Santa Anita on Sunday. He was part of a seven-horse field in Sunday’s eighth race, where he ran a mile and a 16th in 1:42.14.

“He will run definitely,” said Nobutaka Tada, the racing manager of Casino Drive said, “He’s feeling very good and that’s why we entered him. We can give him a prep race.” The prep race could be vitally important for Casino Drive in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. It will be his first start since winning the Peter Pan back in May.

Casino Drive is thought of very highly in horse racing circles but it will not be easy taking on a talented field in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. “It is a very difficult challenge,” Tada said, “The Breeders’ Cup is for champions. We are at a big disadvantage. But Mr. Yamamoto likes international racing, and Mr. Fijusawa (Casino Drive’s owner), “And there are no borders for the horses.”

The goal for Casino Drive was to win the horse betting Belmont Stakes. The horse was prepped for that race but he never made it to the Belmont Stakes as he developed a stone bruise. “He had a stone bruise in his left hind foot,” Tada said. “I can’t express how disappointed we were that we could not run. We targeted the Belmont because of his pedigree. But I think we did the right thing, and we gave him time to recover. If we would have run, we would have been in serious trouble. It took him much longer than we expected to recover,” Tada said. “We were concerned for a long time after we arrived in Japan. It was a month and a half before we started riding him. He lost weight. We thought we might not make it here. We were originally going to come in mid-September, but we delayed his departure a couple of weeks.”

In other 2008 Breeders’ Cup news, Colonel John breezed a half-mile in 46.80 seconds last Wednesday at Santa Anita in one of his workouts prior to the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Curlin worked at Santa Anita on Monday but his status for the Classic is still up in the air.
