Tuzla Handicap at Santa Anita Park Draws 9 Entries
Posted on Wednesday, January 16th, 2008
Saturday’s $100,000 Tuzla Handicap (gr. IIIT), raced at a mile on turf, at Santa Anita Park has drawn 9 entries including French-bred 6-year-old mares Live Life and Private Banking.
Jerry Hollendorfer’s Unspoken Word, who recently finished second in La Brea Stakes last December, makes her 2008 debut. The Kentucky-bred filly broke her maiden by eight lengths on dirt in March of 2007 and was never worse than fourth in nine subsequent starts, eight of which were on the turf. Unspoken Word won the seven furlong Wild Applause Stakes over the turf at Belmont Park on September 19 and has finished second twice since then.
Four-year-old and up fillies and mares racing in the Tuzla Handicap at Santa Anita Park this Saturday line up as follows:
- Good Mood (IRE) with rider Michael Baze carries 115 lbs.
- Political Web with rider Martin Pedroza, 113 lbs.
- Private Banking (FR) with rider Alex Solis, 115 lbs.
- Trick’s Pic with rider Corey Nakatani, 115 lbs.
- Unspoken Word with rider Rafael Bejarano, 116 lbs.
- Shermeen (IRE) with rider Richard Migliore, 114 lbs.
- I Can See with rider Jon Kenton Court, 113 lbs.
- Audacious Chloe with rider Garrett Gomez, 116 lbs.
- Live Life (FR) with rider David Flores, 115 lbs.
Audacious Chloe, trained by Todd Pletcher, won Keeneland’s Appalachian Stakes last spring. During her 2007 campaign, most other best efforts came in 1 mile and 1 1/16 mile events. Audacious Chloe recently finished fourth before being moved up to third because of a disqualification behind Alexandra Rose in the 6 1/2 furlong Monrovia Handicap (gr. IIIT) on New Year’s Day at Santa Anita Park.
Third in the Monrovia Handicap but placed second due to a disqualification was Irish-bred Good Mood, winner of Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs, home of the 2008 Kentucky Derby, last summer. The Eric Guillot trainee Good Mood has not won since the Regret Stakes but has improved in her Monrovia Handicap effort after an 8th place finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (gr. IT) at Keeneland.
The $100,000 Tuzla Handicap is the 5th race in Santa Anita’s January 19 program and approximate post time will be 2:05 in the afternoon PST.
