Posted on Monday, November 17th, 2008
On Monday, November 17, undefeated filly owned by the Aga Khan, Zarkava, won the Cartier Horse of the Year award ahead of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Raven’s Pass, Epsom Derby winner New Approach, Duke of Marmalade and Henrythenavigator.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava also took the Cartier 3-year-old filly award from Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Goldikova.
New Approach, owned by Sheikh Mohammed’s wife Princess Haya, took the Cartier 3-year-old colt award winning by the narrowest of margins against Raven’s Pass.
Despite a disappointing Breeders’ Cup Classic run, Duke of Marmalade, trained by Aidan O’Brien, won the Cartier older horse award because of his 5 consecutive group I victories earlier in the year.
Other Cartier Racing Award winners were Yeats (Champion Stayer), Marchand D’or (Sprinter), Mastercraftsman (2-year-old Colt) and Rainbow View (2-year-old Filly).
