Black Eyed Susan Stakes Draws Field of Eight

Posted on Monday, May 15th, 2006

The 1 1/8-mile Pimlico Special 2006 Black Eyed Susan Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, drew a balanced field of eight.

She’s An Eleven is among the likely favorites for Friday’s $250,000 Woodford Reserve Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) at Pimlico on Friday.

Trainer John Sadler’s She’s An Eleven has been first or second in all four starts this season. After breaking her maiden, the California-bred daughter of In Excess won the restricted $200,000 Melair at Hollywood on April 30. She was assigned top weight of 122 pounds.

“She worked brilliantly Saturday,” said Sadler of a six-furlong bullet drill in 1:11 2/5 on the Hollywood Park main track.

Baghdaria, also assigned 122 pounds, upset French Park in the Silverbulletday (gr. III) at Louisiana Downs in January for trainer Bret Calhoun. Rafael Bejarano gets the call.

Regal Engagement enters the Black-Eyed Susan off a second-place finish for trainer Tom Bush in Aqueduct’s one-mile Comely (gr. II) last month. Ramon Dominguez will ride her.

Smart N Pretty returns quickly following her third-place effort in the 7 1/2-furlong La Troienne (gr. III) at Churchill Downs on the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) undercard.
