Lawyer Ron, Contender to Beat at Arkansas Derby

A full field of 14 runners, highlighted by Lawyer Ron and Private Vow, are set to square off in Saturday’s $1-million Arkansas Derby (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park.
Lawyer Ron, campaigned by the estate of James T. Hines Jr. and trained by Bob Holthus, enters the 1 1/8-mile race off five consecutive wins, dating back to December 2005. Included on his resume are three consecutive stakes scores, most recently a three-length win over fellow Arkansas Derby foes Red Raymond, Steppenwolfer, and Private Vow.
