Breeders’ Cup Results & Payouts: Goldikova Wins The Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita Park

The Irish import Goldikova has successfully defended her title in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile, beating 10 male rivals Saturday at Santa Anita Park November 7.
Ridden by jockey Olivier Peslier and trained by Freddy Head, Goldikova ran the mile distance on the turf in 1:32.26 and paid $4.80, $4 and $2.60 as the 7-5 horse wagering favorite. Courageous Cat returned $12.80 and $8, while Justenuffhumor was another length back in third and paid $8 to show.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Race Results: Presious Passion Wins United Nations at Monmouth Park

Presious Passion won the $750,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) on the Monmouth Park turf July 4.
As part of the 2009 Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge, United Nations winner Presious Passion earned a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf field on November 7 at Santa Anita Park.
Sent off as the second choice, Presious Passion paid $7.40, $3.80 and $3 across the board and topped the $89.80 exacta. Lauro, off at 12-1, paid $11 to place and $7.20 to show, and Brass Hat, 14-1, returned $8.20 to show. Court Vision, the 9-5 favorite, finished sixth.

Presious Passion Ready To Duplicate United Nations Stakes Win

Saturday’s $750,000 United Nations Stakes has a solid mix of old and young performers in the field of 9, including Patricia Generazio’s Presious Passion, who will be out to duplicate his 2008 score in the 1 3/8-mile event at Monmouth Park July 4.
Presious Passion turned in a powerful prep for the 56th running of the United Nations Stakes by winning the June 13 Monmouth Stakes, regaining the lead in deep stretch after he looked beaten, and that race should set him up for a repeat.
The United Nations Stakes is part of the Breeders’ Cup 2009 “Win and You’re In” Challenge where the United Nations winner will automatically be part of the Breeders’ Cup Turf field.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Entries: Salvator Mile Handicap & United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park July 4

Monmouth Park will celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with 6 stakes races, topped by the first two 2009 Breeders’ Cup Challenge races in North America–the $750,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) and the $250,000 Salvator Mile Handicap (G3)–where the winners will have a berth in their respective Breeders’ Cup races.
As part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge, the United Nations Stakes winner will automatically be part of the Breeders’ Cup Turf field while the Salvator Mile Handicap winner will have a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile field.
Monmouth’s Salvator Mile Handicap and United Nations Stakes are races 9 and 10 in its July 4 card. Salvator Mile post time is 4:50 pm while United Nations post time is 5:20 pm.

Einstein & Stardom Bound Winners on Santa Anita Handicap Day March 7

Running for the first time on a synthetic surface, the Brazilian-bred Einstein won Saturday’s $1-million Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita Park March 7.
“He’s a good horse on the turf. He’s a good horse on the dirt. He’s a good horse on anything,” jockey Julien Leparoux said. “We didn’t really know about this track, but we were pretty sure he as going to handle it. And he did.”
In the Santa Anita Handicap undercard, one of the probable Santa Anita Derby and Kentucky Derby contenders Stardom Bound earned her fifth consecutive Grade I victory by a nose in the $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks.

Horse Racing Results: Kip Deville Wins Gulfstream Park Handicap

Kip Deville, ridden by jockey Cornelio Velasquez, held off Just as Well to win the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) on Sunday, February 1.
Trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., Kip Deville covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:45.70 and paid $700, $5.20 and $3.20. 3/4 lengths behind, Just as Well returned $17.00 and $6.80, and Court Vision paid $3.00.
The victory increased Kip Deville’s earnings to $3,319,614. Kip Deville won the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2007 and finished second in the race last year. His 7 previous starts were at 1 mile on the grass, winning 3–including 2 Grade 1s)–and finishing second twice.
