Vineyard Haven wins Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP)–Vineyard Haven won the $250,000 Hopeful Stakes for 2-year-olds by 2 1/4 lengths Monday, September 1, at Saratoga Race Course.
Jockey Alan Garcia, the leading rider at Saratoga’s 140th Meeting that concluded Monday, rode Vineyard Haven, who benefited from a poor start by favored Munnings and Cribnote.
Trained by Bobby Frankel, Vineyard Haven ran the 7 furlongs in 1:23.40 for his 2nd victory in 3 starts paying $20.90, $8.80 and $4.90. Cribnote, piloted by jockey Rajiv Maragh, paid $6.60 and $3.70 and Munnings, under jockey John Velazquez, paid $2.80 to show.
Break Water Edison was 4th in Saratoga‘s Hopeful Stakes followed by Notonthesamepage, Desert Party, Medaglia d’Onore and Cognito.
