27 Horses Killed In A Fire At Riverside Downs

Twenty-seven horses were killed Thursday, November 20, when a fire swept through a barn at a former race track Riverside Downs in western Kentucky, near the Indiana border.
Investigators did not know what caused the blaze, which started between 5 and 5:30 in the morning.
“It’s just a terrible thing,” said Jack Hancock, a manager at Riverside Downs, which is now used to stable and exercise horses. “The worst thing a horseman could ever hear is the word ‘fire.”‘
