Big Brown Wins By A Neck In The Monmouth Stakes

Big Brown displayed championship form as he dug in gamely when challenged to win the $500,000 Monmouth Stakes by a neck over Proudinsky.
The Monmouth Stakes horse race served as Big Brown’s prep for the Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.
Sent off as the 3-5 favorite in the field of 9 and ridden by jockey Kent Desormeaux, Big Brown paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.20. Proudinsky, who went off the second choice at 5-2 and paid $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Another half a length behind, Shakis paid $2.80 to show.

Big Brown Draws Post 4 In The Monmouth Stakes September 13

Big Brown, winner of four Grade 1 races this year–the Florida Derby, Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Haskell Invitational, drew Post 4 for Saturday’s inaugural running of the $500,000 Monmouth Stakes Presented by IEAH Stable.
Raced at 1 1/8 miles on the Monmouth Park turf course, the Monmouth Stakes field of horses with jockeys and weight in post position order:

- Shakis under jockey Joe Bravo, 121 lbs.
- Big Brown under jockey Kent Desormeaux, 120 lbs.
- Kiss the Kid under jockey Elvis Trujillo, 119 lbs.
- Proudinsky under jockey Ramon Dominguez, 119 lbs.
- Drum Major under jockey Kendrick Carmouche, 119 lbs.
- Get Serious under jockey Pablo Fragoso, 119 lbs.

Kiss the Kid Ready To Take On Big Brown In The Monmouth Stakes

Ready to take on the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Haskell winner Big Brown in Saturday’s Monmouth Stakes is Kiss the Kid, a multiple graded stakes placed runner who races in the colors of Hardacre Farm.
“When we saw this opportunity we decided to jump on it,” said Amy Tarrant, who owns Hardacre Farm and conditions Kiss the Kid. “I think my horse always shows up for a race. He’s a bulldog. He’s as fit as he could possibly be.”
Kiss the Kid, a 5-year-old by Lemon Drop Kid, recently finished third in the Iselin (G3) on the dirt at Monmouth Park. In a career that has spanned 22 races, Kiss the Kid sports 5 in the money finishes in graded stakes races, is a stakes winner over the Meadowlands turf course, and is a multiple winner over the Monmouth lawn.
