Even-money favorite Mayor Marv, ridden by jockey David Flores, won the 2009 Kentucky Derby prep race, the $100,000 Turf Paradise Derby, for Valley resident Mike Pegram Saturday, February 21, at Turf Paradise.
Taking the lead from the start and tracked every step of the way by Hidden Bounty, the Bob Baffert trainee Mayor Marv pulled away from that one with a sixteenth of mile to go, to win the Turf Paradise Derby by 4 1/2 lengths.
Hidden Bounty was a clear runner-up, 5 1/4 lengths in front of Just Jebicah who finished third in the Turf Paradise Derby field of seven 3-year-old Kentucky Derby hopefuls.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race: Turf Paradise Derby Entries February 21

Seven 3-year-olds who have aspirations to be part of the Kentucky Derby contenders list, will take their next step in the “Run for the Roses” in Saturday’s $100,000 Turf Paradise Derby on February 21 at Turf Paradise.
The 1 1/16-mile Turf Paradise Derby entries carrying 122 pounds with jockeys and morning line odds in post position order:
- Albacore Bob under jockey Miguel Hernandez with morning line odds of 6-1
- Pauper’s Prize under jockey Martin Garcia, 7-2
- French Hit under jockey Glenn Corbett, 8-1
- Lesson in Deceit under jockey Jake Barton, 8-1
- Mayor Marv under jockey David Flores, 2-1
- Hidden Bounty under jockey Wilson Omar Dieguez, 3-1
- Just Jebicah under jockey Ry Eikleberry, 10-1
The Turf Paradise Derby is a prep race for the 2009 Kentucky Derby. Turf Paradise Derby post time is 4:15 pm and is the 7th race in Turf Paradise’s February 21 card.
