Pegram & Paul Weitman’s Lookin At Lucky, under jockey Martin Garcia, rebounded from a disappointing performance in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago to prevail over 11 rivals by 3/4 of a length in the 135th running of the $1-million Preakness Stakes 2010 Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

While joining Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998), Point Given (2001) and War Emblem (2002) in Baffert’s stable of Preakness winners, Lookin at Lucky ran 1 3/16 miles in 1:55.47. The Preakness record is 1:54 2/5, held jointly by Curlin (2007), Louis Quatorze (1996) and Tank’s Prospect (1985).

Kentucky Derby Winner Super Saver To Arrive at Pimlico For The Preakness Stakes 2010

SBG Global RacebookThe eyes of the horse racing world shift from Churchill Downs to Pimlico Race Course as the Triple Crown players set their sights on the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 15.

Race horse trainer Todd Pletcher announced that Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver will stay in Kentucky to prepare for the Preakness and will arrive at Pimlico next Wednesday, May 12, the day of the Post Position Draw.

The son of Maria’s Mon, Super Saver, furnished Pletcher with his first Kentucky Derby victory. Much had been made of the conditioners 0-for-24 Kentucky Derby record heading into the race. On top of that, the four-time Eclipse Award winner lost pre-race favorite Eskendereya to injury less than a week before America’s most famous horse race.

Kentucky Derby Results: Super Saver Wins The Kentucky Derby May 2 at Churchill Downs

SBG  Global RacebookWinstar Farm LLC’s Super Saver won Saturday’s $2-million Kentucky Derby 2010 by 2 1/2 lengths over Ice Box on May 1 at Churchill Downs giving jockey Calvin Borel his third Kentucky Derby winner in 4 years and race horse trainer Todd Pletcher his first in 24 tries.

“Calvin Borel is a great rider anywhere he goes, but at Churchill Downs he’s even five lengths better,” winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He knows how to ride this track and gets along with his colt beautifully.”

Jockey Calvin Borel’s ride nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place. View the Kentucky Derby results & payouts.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race Results: Sidney’s Candy Wins The Santa Anita Derby

SBG  Global RacebookLeading all the way, Sidney’s Candy won the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby by 4 1/2 lengths Saturday, giving 20-year-old jockey Joe Talamo a Kentucky Derby contender a year after his mount I Want Revenge was scratched as the early horse wagering favorite the morning of the race.

Behind him, drama unfolded for 4-5 favorite Lookin At Lucky, whose troubled third-place finish set off the tempers of jockey Garrett Gomez, trainer Bob Baffert and his wife.

After bobbling at the start, jockey Joe Talamo took Sidney’s Candy to the lead, just as they did in winning the San Vicente and San Felipe on the same synthetic surface. The colt ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.00 to win the West Coast’s major prep for the May 1 Kentucky Derby 2010.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race Results: Lookin At Lucky Wins The Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park

SBG  Global RacebookOne of Bob Baffert’s Kentucky Derby contenders, Lookin At Lucky recovered from a hard bump in the backstretch and won by a head over Noble’s Promise in Saturday’s $300,000 Rebel Stakes on March 13 at Oaklawn Park.

In his first race since December, Lookin At Lucky was four wide in the turn for home and outran Noble’s Promise. Dublin finished third, three lengths back. In the backstretch, Lookin At Lucky and Noble’s Promise bumped, but both had cleared most of the field by the top of the stretch.

Lookin At Lucky paid $4.20, $2.80 and $2.20 as he raced the 1 1/16-mile Rebel Stakes in 1:43.06. Noble’s Promise paid $4.00 and $2.60 and Dublin paid $2.40.
