Breeders’ Cup Results: Conduit Wins The 2008 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita

Conduit has won the $3-million Breeders’ Cup Turf in an upset, defeating Eagle Mountain by 1 1/2 lengths on October 25 Breeders’ Cup Day at Santa Anita Park.
Ridden by jockey Ryan Moore and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Conduit covered 1 1/2 miles in 2:23.42 and paid $13.60, $8.40 and $5.80 at 5-1 odds. Eagle Mountain, who was ridden by Kevin Shea, returned $9.60 and $6.40, while Dancing Forever paid $12.80 to show. Soldier of Fortune, the 8-5 favorite, finished fourth in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Breeders’ Cup Contenders October 25: Curlin Draws Post 9 In The 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic

Race horse Curlin drew post position 9 in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic field and was made the 7-5 favorite for the $5-million horse race to be held on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.
With Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown retired and off the Breeders’ Cup Classic contenders list, the Horse of the Year Curlin will defend his title against 11 other race horses hoping to stop Curlin’s bid to be the second consecutive Breeders’ Cup Classic winner.

Curlin Leads 2008 Breeders’ Cup Pre-Entries

A record 180 race horses were pre-entered on Thursday for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships led by 2007 Horse of the Year Curlin.
The 2008 Breeders’ Cup, to be held on October 24-25 at Santa Anita Park, consists of 14 Breeders’ Cup races held over 2 days, totaling $25.5 million in purses.
The 4-year-old Curlin will attempt to win the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic for a second straight year.
In addition to Curlin, the Breeders’ Cup 2008 event also features a record 7 defending or former Breeders’ Cup winners.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Race Results: Grand Couturier Wins Sword Dancer Invitational at Saratoga

Five-year-old English-bred Grand Couturier came back to Saratoga Race Course to win Saturday’s 34th running of the $500,000, Sword Dancer Invitational at 1 1/2 miles on turf.
The Grand Lodge race horse trained by Bobby Ribaudo, Grand Couturier, came through with a two-length victory over 9-year-old Better Talk Now in 2:36 paying $9.30, $4.80 and $3.70.
It was the sixth win of Grand Couturier’s 16-race career, and as the Sword Dancer was part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge, Grand Couturier automatically becomes part of the Breeders’ Cup field and qualifies for the $3-million Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Red Rocks, who won by 2 lengths over Curlin in the Man O’ War Stakes, head a field of 8 race horses in the $500,000 Sword Dancer Invitational (G1) August 16 at Saratoga Race Course.
The Sword Dancer Invitational at 1 1/2 miles on turf is part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge series of races where the winner will automatically be one of the Breeders’ Cup horses allowed to race in the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Winner Red Rocks Spoils Turf Debut of Curlin In The Man O’War Stakes at Belmont Park

2007 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year Curlin finished 2nd in his turf racing debut on the $500,000 Man O’War Stakes at Belmont Park, making a late charge but losing to 2006 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks.
Trained by Brian Meehan for owner J. Paul Reddam, Red Rocks, ridden by jockey Javier Castellano, raced 1 3/8 miles on turf in 2:12.60 and paid $14.40, $4 and $2.90. Curlin, under jocky Robby Albarado, returned $2.50 and $2.10. 2004 Breeders’ Cup Turf and the 2005 Man O’War Stakes winner Better Talk Now with jockey Ramon Dominguez came in third and paid $2.70 to show.

Curlin Draws Post Position 7 In Turf Debut at Man O’War Stakes
