Online Horse BettingHorse betting favorite California Flag won the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint by 1 3/4 lengths over Gotta Have Her at Santa Anita Park Saturday, November 7.

It was the first Breeders’ Cup win for 20-year-old jockey Joe Talamo and race horse trainer Brian Koriner, who along with California Flag are based in California.

California Flag ran 6 1/2 furlongs on turf in in 1:11.28, just off his own track record of 1:11.10, and paid $8.80, $5.60 and $3.80 as the 3-1 favorite.

Kentucky Derby Contenders Arrive at Churchill Downs For The 2009 Kentucky Derby 135

SBG Global RacebookTwo prospective Kentucky Derby starters are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby 2009.

Breeders’ Futurity (G1) romper Square Eddie, third in last Saturday’s Lexington Stakes (G2) at Keeneland, is scheduled to arrive Tuesday afternoon.

Canadian champion juvenile Mine That Bird is due in Tuesday night after vanning from Sunland Park.

Arkansas Derby (G2) third place finisher Summer Bird is expected to arrive at Churchill Downs on Wednesday.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race Results: Advice Wins Lexington Stakes at Keeneland April 18

SBG Global RacebookAdvice roared past heavy favorite Square Eddie to take the $300,000 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland and earned a spot in the Kentucky Derby field.

“He’s a horse that’s shown a lot of ability,” said Advice race horse trainer Todd Pletcher, who watched the race from Florida. “We were just hoping he would put it all together and obviously he’s working in that direction. I still don’t think we’ve seen the best of him.”

Advice, with jockey Garrett Gomez up, put together a masterful move in the stretch, surging by Square Eddie then holding off Conservative by a length to pick up his first win as a 3-year-old covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.33 and paying $33.60, $15 and $7.80.

401 Early Nominations For 2009 Kentucky Derby & Other Triple Crown Races

The figures are down from the 2008 near-record figure of 449 early nominations, but the quality remains with the top 3 colts from the 2008 Experimental Handicap weights – Midshipman, Vineyard Haven and Square Eddie – leading the way.

The run to racing’s Triple Crown begins with the $2-million, 135th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 2, at Louisville’s historic Churchill Downs. The second leg is set for the 134th running of the $1-million Preakness Stakes Saturday, May 16, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, and the wrap-up comes in the 141st edition of the $1-million Belmont Stakes Saturday, June 6, at Belmont Park.

Horse Racing Results: The Pamplemousse Wins San Rafael Stakes at Santa Anita Park

SBG Global RacebookThe Pamplemousse resisted a challenge by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Square Eddie to capture Santa Anita Park‘s $100,000 San Rafael Stakes (G3), the track’s first major prep for the 2009 Kentucky Derby Triple Crown Trail.

Under jockey Alex Solis, the gray son of Kafwain, The Pamplemousse, defeated the odds-on favorite Square Eddie by 2 lengths covering a mile in 1:35.31 after setting a solid, but comfortable early pace. Runner-up Square Eddie, ridden by jockey Rafael Bejarano, ended up 2 3/4 lengths ahead of third-place Ryehill Dreamer with jockey Mike Smith aboard.

At odds of 5-2, The Pamplemousse, second choice after 3 late scratches reduced the San Rafael field to 5, paid $7.20, $3 and $2.20. Square Eddie paid $2.20 and $2.10 with the show price on Ryehill Dreamer being $2.60.
