Kentucky Derby Prep Race Results: Mr. Fantasy Wins Withers Stakes at Aqueduct April 25

SBG Global RacebookMr. Fantasy, thwarted in the Gotham Stakes by the overpowering performance of one of the leading Kentucky Derby starters I Want Revenge, turned back to a mile Saturday afternoon and rode the rail to a 1 3/4-length victory over favored This Ones for Phil in the 130th running of the $150,000 Withers Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct.

The Withers Stakes was the final graded stakes race of Aqueduct’s spring meet. The Big A will close after Sunday’s races, and live racing will move to Belmont Park, home of the 2009 Belmont Stakes, for the 64-day Spring/Summer Meet on Wednesday, April 29.

Mr. Fantasy raced 1 mile in 1:34.91 and returned $8.60 as the third choice of the crowd of 4,552.

Kentucky Derby Prep Race: Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 28

John Oxley’s Beethoven and Joseph Rausch and David Pell’s Capt. Candyman Can, both Grade 2 stakes winners, will face a full field of 12 Kentucky Derby hopefuls in the $250,000 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), a 2009 Kentucky Derby prep race, Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The field for Gulfstream‘s historic Florida Derby (G1) preview, the Fountain of Youth Stakes, with jockeys and weight in post position order:

Capt. Candyman Can To Race In The Fountain Of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 28

Online Horse BettingAfter bursting on the horse racing scene in impressive fashion last summer, Dr. Joseph Rauch’s Kentucky Derby hopeful Capt. Candyman Can will race in the $250,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park.

The 1-mile Fountain of Youth Stakes is one of the 2009 Kentucky Derby prep races scheduled for Saturday, February 28.

Capt. Candyman Can broke his maiden with a 7 1/4 length victory at Saratoga in August, returns to Gulfstream Park for the Fountain of Youth after staving off Hello Broadway in the (G2) Hutcheson Stakes, also one of the Kentucky Derby prep races, last January 30.

All Others Favored In Opening Pool Of 2009 Kentucky Derby Future Wager

SBG Global RacebookChurchill Downs2009 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (“KDFW”) begins its 11th year on Thursday when the first of its 3 betting pools opens with the mutuel field, or “all others,” as the favored betting interest as fans take their shot at picking the winner of the May 2, 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) months in advance of America’s greatest race.

Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has installed the “all others” betting interest as the 5-2 favorite in Pool 1, which opens Feb. 12 and concludes Feb. 15.

The mutuel field has been favored in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager’s opening pool in each of the first 10 years of the Kentucky Derby Future bet. This year’s group of Kentucky Derby contenders seems more wide-open than most.
