Breeders’ Cup Challenge Race Results: Spring House Wins Del Mar Handicap

Hubbard’s Spring House, the 3-5 favorite under jockey Corey Nakatani, punched his ticket for the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 25 with a hard-earned triumph Saturday in the 69th running of the $250,000 Del Mar Handicap at the marathon distance of 1 3/8 miles over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course at Del Mar.

Spring House, a six-year-old gelded son of Chester House bred in Kentucky and trained by Julio Canani, paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.10 while earning $150,000 with his 7th victory in 33 career efforts. His lifetime bankroll now is $718,284.

Transduction Gold, who was piloted by jockey Jon Court, returned $6.40 and $5, while You Got Me Rocking paid $5.60 to show.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Del Mar Handicap at Del Mar August 23

Saturday’s $250,000 Del Mar Handicap (G2) at 1 3/8 miles on turf for 3-year-olds will be contested by 9 race horses at Del Mar August 23.

The Del Mar Handicap is part of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge series where the Del Mar Handicap winner will be part of the Breeders’ Cup field for the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Races at Del Mar: Del Mar Handicap, Pacific Classic, Pat O’Brien, Rancho Bernardo

SBG Global RacebookThe 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge dominates Del Mar this weekend, with six horse races: the August 23 Del Mar Handicap (G2), the August 24 Pacific Classic (G1), Rancho Bernardo Handicap (G3), Del Mar Mile Handicap (G2) and the Pat O’Brien Handicap (G2).

With the decision by race horse trainer John Sadler to send Tissy Fit into the Del Mar Handicap (G2), a full field seems likely for Saturday’s 1 3/8-mile race on Del Mar’s Jimmy Durante Turf Course.

While two Saratoga-based Pacific Classic prospects, one at Churchill Downs and one at Del Mar, put in their final serious works for Sunday’s $1-million Pacific Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles on the Del Mar main track.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Race Results: Zappa Wins Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar

Kentucky-bred Zappa cruised to an easy early lead and never looked back under jockey Garrett Gomez in coasting to a 6 1/4 length victory in the $150,000 Cougar II Handicap at 1 1/2 miles on the main track of Del Mar Wednesday, July 30.

The Cougar II Handicap is part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” series of horse races. Thus, Zappa became part of the Breeders’ Cup field and qualified for a spot in the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Marathon on Saturday, October 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Zappa paid $9.80, $4.80 and $3. Tissy Fit paid $5.40 and $2.40, while the 3-5 Big Booster with jockey Rafael Bejarano paid $2.10 to show.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar July 30

A field of 7 race horses will run in the $150,000 Cougar II Handicap at 1 1/2 miles for 3-year-olds and up at Del Mar on July 30.

The Cougar II Handicap is newly added to the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” series of horse races where the Cougar II Handicap winner will automatically be one of the Breeders’ Cup horses allowed to race in the new Breeders’ Cup Dirt Marathon on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.Online Horse Betting
