Unbeaten With a Wink Wins Gimma Stakes at Belmont Park

Belmont Park, New YorkNEW YORK (AP) — Win With a Wink stretched her unbeaten streak to three with a 2 3/4 -length victory Sunday in the $112,100 Joseph A. Gimma Stakes for New York-bred 2-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.

With Fernando Jara aboard, Win With a Wink took charge turning for home and held off a late rally from Laurentide Ice, the 2-1 favorite.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Win With a Wink ran the seven furlongs on the fast track in 1:25.54.

“She continues to improve, and it seems like more distance wont hurt her,” Mott said Win With a Wink earned $67,260 for the Live Oak Plantation and paid $14, $5.70 and $4.10. Laurentide Ice returned $4.20 and $2.90. Crosstown Traffic paid $4.60 to show.

Icy City was fourth followed by One Tough Belle, Distinct Pleasure, Belle Harbor, Precious Too, Hold That Thought and Tre Bon Pro.

In the companion event for New York-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings, I’m a Numbers Guy beat Bad Boy Rising by seven lengths to win the $114,300 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes. Unbeaten in two starts, I’m a Numbers Guy paid $6 to win with Stewart Elliott aboard for trainer Tim Ritchie. The time was 1:24.41.
